FYHA AGM
Members of FYHA, With the 2025-26 season behind us, it is time for the Association to look forward and plan our upcoming season, the 2026-27 Annual General Meeting, and the coming elections of the Board. This is an open call for nominations for the following Board positions:

President
Vice President
Secretary
Treasurer
and Directors for U7, U9, U11, U13, U15, U18

The FYHA is a registered not-for-profit company in the Province of NB, and is the largest Minor hockey association in the province. It manages over 1000 member experiences and a $1million annual cash flow. The stewardship of the company and the day-to-day operations are kept separate in our governance structure to maintain fiduciary duty to Members.

Therefore, the Board is exclusively a governance body that sets budget and policy, and supervises the Executive Director, who is its employee responsible for delivering a positive hockey experience for players and their families. Board Members do not engage directly in the decision-making of hockey operations. Instead they provide oversight, stewardship of finances and an independent, confidential conduit for member feedback. Details specific to each role are spelled out in the constitution and are given below.

President. The President shall lead the Association and the Board in setting strategic direction and policy in alignment with the mission of the Association. He or she is an official signing authority for the company. The President shall be the direct supervisor of the Executive Director. The President shall preside at meetings of the Board and meetings of Members.

Vice-President. The Vice-President shall be the President-elect and shall perform all duties of the President in the absence, disability or refusal to act as the President. The Vice-President shall also have such other powers and duties as may from time to time be assigned by the Board or by the President. The Vice-President shall chair the Member Forum, reporting to the Executive and using information gathered to inform strategic planning.

(Note: There is normally only one election for position of President. The duly elected president serves one season as Vice President becoming President the following season, and then serving as Past President in the third year of the appointment). Due to the current VP's resignation, the association needs to hold an election for both the VP and the President this year.)

Secretary. The Secretary is the principal maintainer of records, written policy and rules of the Association. He or she shall record the minutes of meetings of the Members and of the Board; maintain a list of all Members; assemble all records of meetings of the Board sub-Committees; communicate all notices of General or Special Meetings; maintain and publish up-to-date By-laws, policies, and operating procedures for the board and Members, and ensure these are consistent with the rules of Hockey New Brunswick and Hockey Canada. The Secretary shall chair the Policy and Governance Committee.

Treasurer. The Treasurer shall oversee expenditures of the Executive Director, approve general personal expenses of the Executive Director, work with him or her to establish proposed operational budgets; establish and propose Executive Director remuneration to the Board; provide annual financial reports to the Members, running updates to the Board and recommend an auditor to Members. He or she is a joint holder of the Company financial institution accounts, and must approve all company expenditures subject to Article 9. The Treasurer shall chair the Finance Committee.

Division Directors. Division Directors shall bring knowledge of divisional needs to discussions of policy and budget; serve on standing committees of the Board; liaise with division coordinators and the Executive Director as they develop policies and deliver on operational tasks; maintain open communication with Members of their constituency; and attend all meetings of the Board.

Include two references (email or written letters) of support for the candidacy, and please cc your references in correspondence with the Nominations Committee. Deadline for this call is

Deadline is Friday, July 31, 2026, 5PM

The Nominations Committee reviews, approves and communicates a list of candidates to FYHA Members prior to the election. Candidates will be given the opportunity to present their qualifications at the 2026-27 AGM, held later this summer.

The FYHA depends on strong volunteerism. Under a new governance structure the FYHA has become much more responsible in its management of money and it continues to evolve in developing policies that direct hockey operations. We need passionate leaders in this area. However, some individuals may prefer a service role that is more directly involved in the delivery of hockey under the Executive Director (such as coach, manager, division coordinator or score/time keeper). A call for those positions will come from the Executive Director closer to the start of the Season. Regardless of the role, please get involved.

Meeting Date - TBD

Stay tuned for further announcements from the Board on the 26-27 Annual General Meeting. Thank you for your consideration to get involved and help support the delivery of hockey to our youth in Fredericton
